Farmer's Information and Advisory Centre (FIAC)

FIAC established at block level to be used by farmers, block level officers of Agriculture and allied department for training, discussion, grass root level planning etc.

76 No. of Farmers Information & Advisory Centre (FIAC) was established under Rastriya Krishi Bikash Yojna (RKVY) during the year 2008-09 and 91 nos. FIAC under Assam Agricultural Competitiveness Project (AACP-AF) during the year, 2012-13 in the state of Assam. (List enclosed). FIAC are used as a platform for information dissemination and equipped with furniture and sitting arrangement for 25-30 numbers of farmers for conducting meeting, training etc. at block level.

Under Centrally sponsored scheme (CSS)-Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), the FIAC are created at block level. It consists of two bodies namely Farmers Advisory Committee (FAC) and Block Technology Team (BTT). FAC is a body of farmer representatives comprising 11-15 members representing various Enterprises and Socio-Economic strata. On the other hand, BTT is a group of Technical advisors operating at block level representing agriculture and allied sectors. FAC and BTT together, act as planning and operational arm of ATMA. The custodian of FIAC is the District Agricultural officer of respective district who is also Project Director, ATMA and look after the functioning of at FIAC.
